I was recently asked to pop along to the Slug & Lettuce in Brentwood for lunch and to check out their new refurbishment and I was pretty interested to check out their menu and see what vegan options they had on offer. I can't honestly remember the last time I'd been to a Slug & Lettuce prior to this visit, probably back in the day when I used to go out drinking a lot more than I do now! And I guess I have always associated it as being more of a drinking place than somewhere to go to eat.
On walking inside the Slug & Lettuce I was really impressed by the interior and the style of the place. I hadn't seen what this bar looked like prior to their recent refurbishment but considering that they've spent nearly £400k on this I am imagining it was quite different to how it looks now. I really like that there are different styles of seating areas with more secluded and private spaces and booths available too.
Interior styling is becoming a bigger passion of mine more recently and I really love some of the different looks combined together to create a really cosy and contemporary space. They've also managed to incorporate lots of different features like the exposed brick alongside the marble feature walls and hints of pink and gold throughout. Neon lights also seem to be really popular at the moment and help in making a venue all the more instagrammable. I was quite impressed by how Slug & Lettuce have incorporated all of these current trends into their refurb which is most definitely going to appeal to people like me, and of course bloggers.
I don't usually go in for cocktails at lunch time but after seeing the various cocktails available on their drinks menu I couldn't resist going in for a gin fizz! Its also worth mentioning that their cocktails are on offer at two for the price of one all day every day.
After looking over the menu I was actually really impressed to find a few different vegan options, and multiple vegetarian options, available. I decided to order the sharing vegan nachos as a starter and when it arrived I was really blown away by just how good it looked! It came with some sides of guacamole, salad, jalapeños and even some vegan mayonnaise. The nachos were also topped with a quinoa chilli which definitely made this dish a more substantial option.
I really can't rave about these nachos enough - they were SO good! So much so that I haven't really been able to stop thinking about them ever since. I think the nachos alone have secured a return visit from me!
The nachos were pretty filling and I wasn't sure I'd have room for my main option but I did manage to eat half of this vegan wrap and fries, which was again very good. The wrap was filled with a mix of falafel, baba ghanoush, mixed peppers, salad and vegan mayo and had the option of upgrading to sweet potato fries.
It was really tasty and incorporated some great flavours, it was just a shame I was so full from the nachos! Other vegan options include the Avocado & Quinoa Salad, Vegetable Linguine and Quinoa Chilli. I really don't think I was expecting so much choice from the Slug & Lettuce so it was a pleasant surprise and great to see yet another high street chain offering up some decent options.
My overall experience of dining here was an excellent one and it's definitely somewhere I'll be coming back to again. I think the combination of the beautiful interior, tasty menu options and the fabulous cocktails make it an all round great option whether it be for a casual lunch, a dinner date or meeting friends for a drink. I think it's somewhere that works well for all occasions and if you're perhaps looking for a venue for a party then they also have you covered for this too with their upstairs space which can be hired out for events.
In actual fact I think the upstairs space was a favourite for me as the styling is just so on point and what could be better than your own private cocktail bar!?!
Have you visited the Slug & Lettuce before?
If you're based in or near Essex I'd really recommend checking out this Brentwood branch!
It looks stunning in there and I am legit drooling at the food! I think this will have to be the next place I try!! Who'd have thought I'd be putting a slug & Lettuce at the top of my list! :) x
