My 2018 Travel Bucket List

It's fast approaching the end of 2017 and it's always a time of year when I reflect on our travels and plans I want to make for the year ahead.

This year has been one of the best for travels for us and exploring new places. Our visit to Helsinki and Lapland at the start of the year was seriously the most magical holiday I have ever been on and I will never forget the breathtaking scenery of Finland. Another highlight was our mini break to Copenhagen which was so much fun and packed full of amazing vegan food. Then in the Summer it felt amazing to finally tick Santorini off my bucket list as it's somewhere I have wanted to visit for so many years. It felt so surreal to finally be there in person and seeing the views I had lusted over online for so long.

So what's in store for 2018? Well it's something I've been really thinking about over the last two weeks. It finally feels like things have settled down at our new house and we feel ready to start making some serious plans again. Plus I always like to kick off a new year with some plans in place and trips to look forward to as I find it helps me to have a more positive outlook if I feel like there's things I am aiming towards.I already have booked a couple of trips as I couldn't wait any longer!

In January we're off to Norway and we'll be spending a couple of days in Oslo and a few days further North into the Arctic Circle in Tromso. This is a trip I am so excited for as I absolutely love winter holidays, especially when they are in a Nordic country, and it's a country I have never been to before. We didn't have any luck catching the Northern Lights in Lapland so we're hoping to hit jackpot on this trip. In fact I feel like we're on somewhat of a mission this time! We're hiring a car and plan to spend every evening driving around to the best spots to hopefully catch a sight and take some amazing photographs. This will be 3rd time lucky for me as I also tried to see them in Iceland back in 2008!

If any of you have been to Oslo & Tromso before and have any recommendations for me I'd love to hear. I'm planning on doing lots of research before we go but it's always great to get some personal recommendations, especially when it comes to eating vegan.

Another trip we have booked is for our 5 year wedding anniversary which falls in May 2018. I can't quite believe we have been married for 5 years already as that time has really flown by and it only feels like yesterday that we were planning our beautiful Ibiza wedding. Anyway, it felt like the right time to return to our favourite island and back to the venue where we got married. It will be so lovely to go back there again and enjoy a relaxing few days in the sun. Ibiza is my favourite place in the world and it almost feels like a 2nd home to us so I can't wait to go back!

The final holiday for 2018 we have booked is for June to the island of Mykonos in Greece. It's not somewhere either of us have been before but we have heard such great things and can't wait to see it for ourselves. Aside from the stray animals of Santorini, we had a really amazing time there and both feel keen to explore more of the Greek islands. The food was also incredible and we found it pretty easy to eat veggie and vegan there too. Again, if anyone has any recommendations on things to do and places to eat comment below and let me know!

I feel really excited for all of these plans and it feels great to be ticking more new countries off our hit list. I'm sure that in between those big holidays we will also try to squeeze in a couple of trips down to Brighton and perhaps Cornwall for our annual doggie holiday. I also really want to visit Glasgow to try out all the incredible vegan food! I've been really enjoying exploring more of Europe recently and I am a fan of shorter flights so these trips are just perfect for us.

Have you made any travel plans for 2018 yet? Is there anywhere on your hit list you'd like to tick off!? I'd love to hear as I am always looking for inspo for new places to visit!

  1. I love reading about your travel plans! I'm especially excited to read about your trip to Tromso, it's been on my must-visit list for ages. I'm heading to Japan to do more voluntary work in a couple of weeks and I'll be there for a few months. That's my only 2018 travel plan so far but I think that's enough!

  2. Loved this post! Norway sounds fun. I haven't booked anything yet but next year I'd like to go to Lisbon, Barcelona, Gothenburg and maybe a week in Italy xx
