Hayman's Mulled Sloe Gin Winter Warming Cocktail

Gin is most certainly the 'in' drink of the moment and I happened to try it for the first time this year as I wanted to see for myself what all the fuss was about. Nearly everyone I know chooses gin above any other drink so I was quite happy when I realised that I actually quite like it myself! I drink alcohol very rarely and I'm really not keen on the taste of strong spirits so gin works quite well for me as I don't think the taste is very noticeable at all.

The lovely people at Hayman's Gin recently sent me over some of their Sloe Gin to try, which again was a completely new drink for me, and I'm pleased to say that I really love it! It's bursting with intense fruit flavours and on drinking it leaves you with a lovely warming feeling inside which stays with you, making it the perfect drink for Winter. You can also enjoy it in a variety of different ways - served neat over ice, mixed with some sparkling wine or tonic water. It also makes the perfect ingredient for a warm Winter cocktail for which I have listed the ingredients and method below should you wish to try one for yourself.

Ingredients

100ml Hayman’s Sloe Gin
250ml red wine
2tsp maple syrup
Half a teaspoon of allspice
To garnish: cinnamon stick, apple slice and/or blackberries

Method

Set a metal-based saucepan over a medium heat. Pour the Hayman’s Sloe Gin and red wine into the saucepan. Add in the maple syrup and allspice. Bring to a simmer and allow the mixture to simmer gently for 2-3 minutes. Pour into a handled glass, and garnish with a cinnamon stick, apple slice and/or blackberries.

This really is the most perfect winter warming cocktail and would work amazingly well at any festive gatherings or parties you may have planned. I'm personally looking forward to making a batch of this up on Christmas Eve and enjoying whilst I'm snuggled up on the sofa watching a movie with my family.
