Last weekend we found ourselves in the South Bank area of London and it was the perfect opportunity to try out the new Tibits Bankside restaurant. As soon as I heard Tibits were opening another restaurant I was so happy because this is definitely my favourite place to eat out vegan when I am in London.
As expected, this new restaurant has a lovely fresh and modern feel to it and the decor is really welcoming. Our feet were really tired from all of the walking along the river and stepping inside here felt like the perfect sanctuary for us to relax and enjoy a good meal.
The new restaurant works exactly the same as their original one in West London in that it's a buffet set up whereby you pay by how much your plate weighs. If you enjoy a buffet and sampling some different kinds of foods then this is definitely one you need to check out if you haven't done so already.
The prices per 100g are detailed on a black board but personally I find this too challenging to even begin to try and work out so it does leave you slightly unknowing how much your plate of food will cost when you get to the counter. But if you are worried you can take your plate up to be weighed as you go around the buffet to enable you to be able to stick to a budget if you have one.
If I am completely honest it is on the more expensive side, especially if you're really hungry and pile your plate up high! And just so you know my plate of food, which you can find a photo of below, came to just under £10 but I have in the past paid nearly £20 before at the Heddon Street restaurant where my plate was bigger than this one. Personally I am happy to spend this to be able to access a vegan friendly buffet in London and it's not something I do all the time so it does feel like a treat when we do go there.
I am not completely sure if this new restaurant is smaller than the Heddon Street one but it does feel it. I am sure the buffet boat at the other one is bigger but I could be wrong. Either way there was a really great selection of different dishes to try and I wasn't disappointed but I am sure there have been more vegan choices when I have been to Heddon Street before. (*FYI the buffet is vegetarian and vegan but on Tuesdays it's vegan only)
As well as the food available at the buffet they also have a selection of different cakes and baked goods around the counter which are always worth checking out. As well as dining in the restaurant they also have takeaway containers which I believe works out cheaper than if you choose to dine in. If I lived close to one of their restaurants I think I'd be there every day for lunch!
The food at Tibits is always delicious and flavoursome and, if you're anything like me, you'll want to try a bit of everything! It's great to see the restaurant expanding into new areas and I hope this is the start of more growth for this chain in the UK. It would be great to see a restaurant open in East London and other areas of the country. Brighton maybe? Cambridge? Essex!?? We'll just have to wait to see!
I've always been a big fan of Tibits & your plate looks pretty great for under £10! I always without fail spend £15+ but I'm usually stuffed afterwards.
