The Vegan Kind - #TVK48

This months Vegan Kind box really couldn't have arrived at a better time. I found myself at home on a dreary cold dark day with very little in the cupboards and then when the postman knocked and I saw what was in his arms I really could have hugged him! Sometimes you just really need a little pick me up and this is exactly what this box has become for me. It's the perfect treat for yourself!

This months box really was packed full of surprises ...

Harpers Candles Little Black Cat Candle

First of all lets kick off this review with my favourite item in this box! I am so into candles at the moment, it's almost like the team at TVK read my mind in including this in the October box. The Little Black Cat candle is a real favourite from Harpers seasonal range and it's not the first time I have enjoyed one of these around Halloween time. I really love it when seasonal treats are included in these boxes as it just makes them all the more enjoyable! Harpers Candles are quite simply amazing and they give off such beautiful scents which really have some longevity in your home. I'm saving this little one for Halloween. 

Alo Original Comfort Watermelon & Peach Drink

I really don't think I have ever drank real Aloe Vera juice before so this was a new one for me. To be completely honest I am not even sure if I knew you could drink Aloe Vera juice until now! I love my Aloe Vera plant, and I know they have a multitude of benefits for you, but drinking it has never come to mind. This was actually quite pleasant tasting and just reminded me of a dilatable juice I'd have at home. I'm not however a fan of pulp in the juice and this did appear to have a lot swimming around in it which did put me off a little. Peach is also one of my least favourite flavours so I'd be interested in trying a different one like the Apple & Pear combination which would probably be much more to my liking. Alo offer up a wide range of different flavoured juices, all packed with vitamins and nutrients so they're well worth checking out if you like this kind of thing. 

Biona Organic Cool Cola Bottles

I have enjoyed these Biona cola bottles many times in the past so I was really happy to find them inside this box! They really remind me of the cola bottles I used to have when I was a kid and I have always preferred this kind over the super fizzy sour variety. I'd really recommend these to any vegan, or non vegan for that matter, looking for a decent sweet treat.
  

Retro Corn Lemon & Lime Sherbet Popcorn

Prior to opening this box I had never heard of or tried Retro Corn before. When I saw that they were Lemon & Lime Sherbet flavour I really didn't know what to think! I've never come across popcorn like this before and I was intrigued to find out what it was like. The traditionalist I am suspected I wouldn't like them because I tend to be quite straight forward when it comes to popcorn flavour's, with your usual sweet or salty variety being preferred. However, they were actually ok.... I probably wouldn't buy them again but as a one off they weren't as bad as I though they'd be! The bitter lemon kick just didn't really work for me but I am sure there are others who probably really like this different take on popcorn. As well as being vegan they're also gluten free and other flavours in the range include Strawberries & Cream, Rhubard & Custard, Cherry Pips and Cola Cubes. Have you tried any yet!??

Geo Organics Chickpea & Lentil Dahl

I always expect this box to be quite snack orientated but this product was actually enjoyed as a main meal. I'm not always the greatest when it comes to cooking things from scratch so products like this are so handy for me to have in the cupboard. It was so quick and easy to make and only took a couple of minutes in the microwave. It was also really tasty and flavoursome! I don't often see convenience food that isn't packed with lots of nasties so this made a really nice change and I could taste that it was full of natural ingredients. I would definitely eat this again and I am already looking at the other products in their range. Also, for anyone looking for more wholesome lunch options these would be perfect if you have access to a microwave at work. 

My Protein Chocolate Baked Cookie

I have tried a few different protein products recently and all have been a bit on the disappointing side so I was really hopeful that this one would taste great and change my mind about them, but sadly that wasn't the case. I don't know, maybe it's just me, but whenever I try these kind of sweet cookie based protein snacks all I can taste is protein powder and they always end up leaving a really bad after taste in my mouth.   They definitely have their advantages with this one containing a whopping 13g of protein, it's undoubtedly a great way of getting your protein hit in one sitting. However, for me personally I have to actually enjoy the taste of something to want to have it again. 

Vive Peanut Butter Jelly Protein Energy Snack

Ok so we got not one, but two sweet protein snacks in this box! After trying the cookie above I obviously had more reservations about this product and whether it would work for me or not. It is however different as it contains predominantly peanut and pea protein so it didn't have the protein powder taste to it which I was thankful for! The flavour of this bar was actually pretty nice and the more I ate the more I could taste the jelly flavour coming through but it wasn't hugely noticeable. It definitely tasted more of peanuts than anything else. I found the texture quite dry and crumbly which surprised me when I saw that it was also made from dates as I was expecting it to be more like a Nakd bar. I'd really like to try the Cacao & Orange flavour of this snack as I could imagine that being much more to my liking. 

So all in all it was quite a mixed box this month! Some products I loved, and others not so much, but overall I was impressed by the amount included and that they were all full size. My favourite items from this box were definitely the candle, with the cola bottles in 2nd place.
