Host - Liverpool

A couple of weeks ago I took my Mum away for the weekend to Liverpool for the full Beatles experience for her birthday. When originally planning my itinerary for the weekend I did try to squeeze in as many vegan eateries as I could but unfortunately in reality we just didn't have the time to get to all of them. But the one that I had my eye on and had heard so many good things about was the pan-asian restaurant Host which fortunately fit nicely into our schedule!

I had heard from a fellow vegan on Twitter that Host have their very own special 'Vegan Menu' so as soon as we were shown to our table I asked to see this and was pleased to see that many of the appealing veggie dishes on their main menu were also on the vegan menu. I was however slightly perplexed by the name of this 'Vegan Free Menu'! Surely it should just be called 'Vegan Menu' as something that is 'Vegan Free' denotes something that I probably can't eat!

Anyway, despite the confusing menu name, the food choice was excellent and included many of my all time Asian favourites like edamame and vegetable tempura! After spending the previous 3 hours on a lengthy Beatles taxi tour around Liverpool we were feeling pretty ravenous so we also opted for some onion bhaji's! My eyes lit up when our starters arrived as it all looked so incredible! I am pleased to report that it did indeed taste as good as it looks too.

After standing outside in the brisk North West wind for most of the afternoon we were both in need of something to warm us up so my Mum ordered the curry and I went with the sweet and sour noodles which were surprisingly spicy and certainly done the trick in injecting some heat into me! Both dishes were full of flavour, spice and kick and they succeeded in bringing our weary selves back to life.

Overall I was really impressed by Host and it's definitely somewhere that I would recommend to any veggie or vegan who may find themselves in Liverpool. Inside it was contemporary yet comfortable and I think it makes a great venue for any occasion, whether it be like us for a quick lunch or an evening dinner party.

All in all we had an excellent time in Liverpool and it was great for shopping, sightseeing and of course everything Beatles related. The people were probably the most happy and friendly I have ever come across too! The other main place that was on my vegan hit list was the Egg Cafe which is famous for it's vegan Sunday roasts. I was gutted that we didn't have the time to make it there but having enjoyed Liverpool so much I know i'll be back again soon!
