Hitchin Lavender

One place I knew I wanted to visit this Summer was Hitchin Lavender. I remember this time last year seeing so many gorgeous photos from other peoples visits and it really stuck itself in my mind as a great Summer's day out. Last Summer I was in the depths of moving house and that kind of took over, but this year life has thankfully slowed down and it's been so nice having time to explore and enjoy more of life's simple pleasures.

I've been to a couple of different lavender fields in the past but none as big or well equipped for visitors as this one. When we got out of the car I was really impressed to see a gorgeous cafe and shop area which immediately drew me in. We decided we needed to re-fuel before setting off into the fields so this was our first port of call. 

Whenever we go to new places like this I never really expect to find any vegan options let alone decent ones. The cafe at Hitchin Lavender exceeded my expectations with a delicious vegan sandwich option and they even had vegan chocolate cake which looked divine! 

After we'd finished our lunch it was time to head over into the lavender field which just looked stunning. It was a boiling hot day when we visited and I wasn't sure how long we would actually last out in it but I had gone with a sunhat and sunglasses which helped to make me a little more comfortable. There were also a couple of shaded seating areas at the front of the field which helped when we wanted to cool down. If you are planning to visit any time soon then I would definitely recommend taking a bottle of water with you too. 

Entrance into the lavender field costs £6 for adults and £3 for children which includes a brown paper bag which can you fill with your lavender cuttings and scissors are also provided. 

The view of the lavender was just beautiful and, despite the heat, I was really keen to walk to the top of the hill so that we could get a good view of the rolling field beneath us. It's well worth having a little explore around if you're able to as we found lots of different coloured lavender as well as some gorgeous wild flowers which you're also welcome to pick. 

When you first arrive at the fields the smell of lavender is just glorious! 

It felt really lovely and relaxing just being within nature and picking our lavender cuttings. There are however lots of bees and wasps around the lavender so I wasn't able to get as deep into the field as I was hoping to out of fear of getting stung. I'd definitely recommend keeping your legs covered if you do visit as I was convinced on more than one occasion that a bee had made its way up my inside my dress!  

The view from the top of the field was just beautiful!

It really was the most perfect Summer afternoon out here and I'd recommend it to everyone. My lavender is now in vases and my whole home just smells amazing! Once they dry out you can also then strip the lavender from their stems and use this in anyway you like. Previous years I have made little lavender cushions which I've then kept inside drawers but you could also use your lavender to make bath salts, in lemonade or even just as potpourri around your home.  

The fields are open a little later into the evening on certain days and all I keep thinking is how amazing it would be to go here during sunset hour. The photos would be incredible!
