Celebrate Chinese New Year with Passage Foods | AD

We all know that when it comes to cooking, I am all about ease and convenience. Whilst my husband really enjoys getting creative in the kitchen and experimenting with recipes for hours on end, I am much more of a throw it all in the oven and be ready in 20 minutes kind of woman! When I’m hungry and ready for dinner nothing pains me more than having to wait around for hours to eat.

With Chinese New Year just around the corner, Passage Foods reached out to me to see if I would like to give their authentic, quick and easy Passage to Asia sauces a try. Described as needing ‘minimal effort’ to create ‘authentic’ Asian dishes within 20 minutes, I had a feeling they knew that I was their target audience! Knowing that my local Chinese takeaway would be closed for the celebration and faced with the prospect of having to cook for myself, I was of course very keen to take them up on their offer.

I decided to try out the Passage to Asia vegan friendly ‘Satay Chicken’ stir fry sauce which has a very mild, exotic Indonesian flavour and is perfect for anyone like me, who tends to steer away from anything too hot and spicy. You simply add in your own choice of ‘meat’ and/or vegetables or you can follow their own handy little recipe on the back of the packet.

When it comes to stir fry’s we usually just throw in as many vegetables as possible, but this time I wanted to experiment a bit with a vegan mock chicken meat. There’s quite a lot of choice in the supermarkets now when it comes to vegan meats and they’re a great additional protein source to add into meals. After much deliberation in the supermarket aisles we decided to give the Quorn vegan pieces a go along with a large selection of vegetables including shiitake mushrooms, green pepper and carrot. We also picked up some beansprouts, bamboo shoots and water chestnuts which are always a must have for me for any stir fry we make. We debated for a while over whether to serve with rice or noodles but in the end the quickest and easiest option won so we went with straight to wok noodles.

Step 1

Chop and prepare vegetables.

Step 2

Fry shiitake mushrooms & Quorn pieces in sesame or olive oil on a high heat for 5 minutes.

Step 3

Add in the remaining vegetables and noodles and turn down the heat down.
Simmer for 10 minutes or until cooked.

Step 4

Add and stir in the Passage to Asia Satay Chicken sauce and simmer for 3 minutes.

Step 5

Serve and enjoy!

We both really enjoyed this meal which was packed full of flavour and colour! The Quorn pieces worked really well as a chicken replacement and our meat-eating friend who sampled the dish with us said they wouldn’t have known it wasn’t chicken. We all commented on how moreish this flavour sauce was as it left us all wanting seconds. I have to say that I was really impressed that I was able to create a healthy and delicious meal with authentic Asian flavours in less time than it would have taken me to order and collect a takeaway! It also came in at a fraction of the price.

Passage to Asia sauces are available to buy for £2.00 in the UK from Tesco stores and they include a variety of flavours including Teriyaki and Satay which are both vegan friendly. They also offer Pad Thai and Taramind, Lime & Chilli sauces which are suitable for Pescatarians as they contain fish sauce. Whether you are a meat eater, Pescatarian, Vegetarian or Vegan, there is something for everyone!
