I don't know why but since hitting my mid 30's my skin has become more unpredictable than ever. Maybe it's hormones or the fact that I haven't had a baby, who knows! Some days it looks amazingly clear and bright and the next week it will feel like I am having a really bad breakout. I was so fortunate during my teenage years and my 20's to have near perfect skin and for that I will always be grateful. But if anything that always led me to believe that I would never suffer with any skin problems. How wrong was I!?!
I made the decision last year to go back to some trusted Dermalogica products which had really worked wonders for me a few years previously. For a long time I had been using Superdrug own brand products which were excellent value for money, and did seem to do an ok job, but they didn't seem to be helping my skin complaints so it was definitely time for a change.
I have to admit that i'm not someone who likes to spend a long time on my skincare routine and I particularly don't like using any products that I would deem unnecessary. I've always liked to keep things simple and quick for every day use. Then maybe one day a week, usually on Sunday, I will spend a little extra time and treat myself to a face mask or go in a bit extra with my usual routine.
I've been fortunate enough to try out quite a few different Dermalogica products over the past year and particularly since they asked me to join their team of 'Skinfluencers' which was a real pinch me moment. To have the opportunity to collaborate with a brand who I absolutely love felt like a little dream come true! But anyway, out of all the products i've had the pleasure of trying there have been three standout favourites which have taken a solid position within my every day skincare routine and that I can't see myself ever moving away from.
Special Cleansing Gel
Dermalogica's Special Cleansing Gel is a product I have loved for many years and I don't think any other cleanser has worked as well for me. It is so effective at removing makeup and always leaves my skin feeling super clean.
One method I use for testing the effectiveness of a cleanser is what I like to call the pillow test. If a cleanser has really done it's job well then there will be no visible signs of makeup on my pillow and when I use this product my pillows are still bright white come the end of the week.
I have combination skin which can at times feel more oily than dry and one thing I really like about this cleanser is that it seems to really balance out my skin leaving it feeling soft and hydrated after use.
This cleanser is more expensive than what I used to buy from Superdrug but a little goes a really long way and I find that the bottles will last me months whereas before it felt like I was buying cleanser all the time.
Dynamic Skin Recovery SPF50
I've tried a lot of different Dermalogica moisturisers and they've all been amazing to use but their Dynamic Skin Recovery SPF 50 is the one I find myself always wanting to go back to and really miss when it runs out.
It's a medium weight moisturiser which feels so good to rub into your skin. It has both firming and smoothing qualities and provides excellent protection against harmful UV rays. It's also been designed to help the appearance of photoaged skin so it's perfect for anyone who's concerned about ageing skin.
I was a total sun worshipper throughout my 20's and often didn't use sunscreen so I fear that some damage has already been done. I'm just glad that I wised up in my 30's and have a better understanding of the dangers of unprotected sun exposure. It's also much more important to me now to delay any signs of ageing and keep my skin feeling as healthy as possible so this product really helps me to achieve that.
Skin Resurfacing Cleanser
A few years ago I would have never considered using two different cleansers but that was before I had tried Dermalogica's Skin Resurfacing Cleanser. As soon as I did try it I was hooked! This dual-actin exfoliating cleanser helps to retexturize ageing skin and give your skin a much deeper clean.
Whenever I use this cleanser I can really notice how different my skin feels afterwards. It's silky soft to touch and feels smoother than ever. When massaging it into my face I can almost feel it working away at removing dead cells and dullness. It's so effective at brightening my skin! It also seems to help clear up any breakouts I may have and has felt like a little life saver at times.
This product has become my go to cleanser that I use when showering in the morning and it fits into my routine perfectly. I tend to use it every other day which seems to be the perfect balance for my skin.
So there you have it! These are my current skincare hero's and they do such a amazing job that I don't foresee changing any of them anytime soon. These are the products I would struggle to live without and would rate the highest out of all of the Dermalogica products i've had the pleasure of trying.
That being said, just because these products are right for me and my skin type doesn't necessarily mean that they will be right for you. I'd therefore recommend paying a visit to your local Dermalogica store or retail stand and getting yourself a face mapping skin analysis which will help determine your skin type and the skincare that best suits your own individual needs. This is also a particularly good idea for any of you who have specific skin complaints that you need help with as they can give you their expert opinion and hopefully help you on your way to clearer skin.
