Half Man Half Burger | Vegan

Until last week I'd never heard of Half Man! Half Burger! and I only happened to stumble across them after failing to find any vegan options whatsoever at the Eastbourne Air Show. The smell of burgers and hot dogs from all the food stalls there really gave me a craving for a good burger and after a quick search online I came across this place and the vegan menu looked exceedingly good.

I'm always super impressed when a predominately meat based restaurant offers up really impressive vegan and veggie options and this is exactly what HM!HB! do. I was expecting there to maybe be one vegan burger on the menu and certainly not three, with an additional three different vegetarian burgers too. I felt really spoilt for choice and was amazed that I'd never heard of this place before.

All of the burgers sounded mouth wateringly good but the one that really caught my eye was the 'Beanie Mother Frickle' which is a combination of a bean patty, burger sauce, caramelised onions, vegan cheese and deep fried pickles in tempura batter. Yes ladies and gentleman, we're talking battered gherkins! And yes, I just had to try them out for myself.

When my burger arrived it looked like an absolute beast and the battered gherkins just looked immense. I was so pleased with my choice! Part of me wasn't sure how well battered gherkins would work but let me tell you - they work AMAZINGLY well. Just imagine how good onion rings taste and then imagine it being a gherkin instead of an onion. They were incredible! Everything about this burger was just so yummy. I was a little sad to see that it didn't come in a vegan friendly brioche style bun but it really wasn't a deal breaker.

My husband and I also shared a side of fries which were so much better than any other fries I've tried recently. They were just really well cooked and packed with lots of seasoning and flavour. One portion is also plenty enough to share between two.

I love meals like this which are completely unplanned and totally blow you away! To think I'd never even heard of this place before is quite surprising to me but I guess when they only have two branches, in Eastbourne and St Leonards on Sea, it was likely they would slip under my radar. I also only ever visit Eastbourne occasionally to visit family so it's not somewhere I spend a huge amount of time but when I do visit I like to investigate what new options there are. I think it would be fair to say that whenever I am in Eastbourne again I will definitely be going back to Half Man! Half Burger! as it totally surpassed my expectations.

Had you heard of this place before?
