My Bedside Table Essentials

I always find myself really interested in what other people keep on their bedside tables so I thought I would share with you all the essential items which I keep next to my bed.

I actually have bedside drawers next to my bed which i'm afraid to say hold within them a whole load of different things, half of which I should probably get around to throwing away. Aside from that though, I always keep my essential bits and pieces on the top surface of my drawers so they're within easy reaching distance from my bed.

I think everyone has a lamp on their bedside table so there will be no surprises seeing this on the top of my list. We picked up these copper and marble lamps earlier this year from Oliver Bonas and they have really been a great finishing touch to our bedroom. I am a big fan of all things copper and marble anyway so these were the perfect choice!

In terms of cosmetics there's a few items I feel like I can't live without at night time.

Number one on that list would have to be my REN Revitalising Night Cream. I've raved about this night cream a lot lately on my blog and vlog but it's by far one of the nicest creams I have ever used and, of course, its vegan friendly and cruelty free.

I also like to have an eye cream to hand as I find it quite soothing at bed time to apply something cooling to my eye area. My current eye cream of choice is Superdrug's Naturally Radiant Brightening Eye Cream

I often suffer with dry and cracked lips and I find that the night time is the perfect time of the day to smother them in lip balm. I received this Hurraw Chai Spice Lip Balm in a previous Vegan Kind box and it's become a favourite ever since. Although I think next time I might pick a more fruiter flavour!

And last but not least, I always have a little bottle of lavender oil close to hand as I find that placing a few drops on my pillow before I sleep really helps me to relax into a good nights sleep.

One of my goals for 2016 was to spend more time reading and this is still something I would like to invest more time in. As a prompt to myself I like to have a couple of books by my bedside as the only time I can see myself ever being able to sit down to read is at bed time.

I recently purchased The Happiness Trap which i'm looking forward to starting soon. I also have my Calm book too in case I happen to get a case of night time anxiety. This has some really useful activities which help to distract your thoughts and make you feel calmer.

My husband always falls asleep before me and so if I am reading or doing something I feel like I can't turn on my bedside lamp as it will wake him up. I recently saw this handy little led book light in Flying Tiger which has completely solved this problem! I love how you can have it standing like a lamp like in my photo, or you can also remove it from its base and clip it to your book.

Do you ever find that when you go to bed your mind can be racing with numerous different thoughts and things that you need to remember? Well someone once told me to keep a notepad and pen beside my bed in order to write things down when they come to mind. This was the best bit of advice and it really helps me to rid my mind of worries which in turn helps me to fall asleep easier.

Another notepad I keep on my bedside is my Kikki K Thankful Journal. I bought this in the new year because I wanted to make an effort to keep a daily log of all the good things that happen on a day to day basis. I find that this helps me to always find the positives even on the bad days. I always fill in my thankful journal when I go to bed and once the day is over and it definitely helps to put me in a good frame of mind.

Ever heard of an eye pillow? To be honest I hadn't either until I started going to yoga classes this year and at the end of the session I was instructed to use one. It was such an enjoyable and relaxing experience and I immediately needed one in my life.

To hold in your hand they feel like children's beanbags and mine has some lavender inside which makes it even more relaxing to use. It also works as a sleep mask so if you want to block out any bright light you can do so easily with one of these.

I was lucky enough to spot this one in Flying Tiger for a bargain £1 but there are numerous places online where you can order one from. Who would have thought that the weight of a pillow on your eyes could feel so good!?

My final bedside essential would have to be my medication for anxiety and depression which I have to take on a daily basis, in the morning and at night. If I didn't keep it on my bedside table it would be much harder to remember to take it. I take it as soon as I wake up and before going to sleep so there's nowhere better for these live than my bedside table. I'm also popping hayfever tablets back at the moment as it's the height of Summer.

I think medication is a daily reality for the majority of people so I wonder how many of you keep your meds beside your bed?

Like most people I also keep my phone charger plugged in bedside my bed so that I can give my phone a full charge throughout the night. I was told that you should put your phone in another room at night time so that you don't get distracted into spending lots of time looking at it when you should be unwinding for sleep. I am yet to take this advice! But maybe I should!?

So that's it, my bedside table tour is over. I hope you enjoyed it and I'd love to know some of the essentials items you have to keep beside your own beds so comment below and let me know!

  4. I love the Hurraw balms, my absolute favourite. I tend to like the spicier types, I like Chai and Root Beer the best, but I imagine the fruity ones would be good too. Next to my bed I have a random drawer filled to the brim with random stuff, including hair ties, lotion, and lip balm. I always need to rummage to find what I need!
