Giant Houseplant Takeover at RHS Wisley

My love of houseplants and all things botanical continues and has been intensified even more so since my recent visit to The Giant Houseplant Takeover at RHS Wisley last week. If ever there was a perfect escape away from the gloomy February weather, storms and Winter blues it's this!

Stepping foot inside their magnificent Victorian glasshouse transports you into a different world. To go from blustery piercing cold winds outside and into a warm, tranquil and tropical oasis was the metamorphosis I didn't even realise I needed so badly. I wouldn't be exaggerating by saying that being there felt like a literal hug from the universe!

This spectacular new display shows off the beauty of houseplants in a way that I've never experienced before. I think it would be fair to say that some of my favourite garden centres and plant shops are becoming increasingly more creative when it comes to displaying their plants, but this exhibit really takes things to the next level! With so many innovative demonstrations of how you could display your houseplants within your home, you can expect to leave bursting with inspiration.

The exhibition allows you to wander through six different rooms within a home and learn more about what houseplants thrive best in different conditions and surroundings. Even though I have been an avid houseplant collector for the past few years, I am still far from being an expert and I'm always learning. On reflection, and as someone who is prone to getting bored quite easily, I think this is actually one of the main reasons they keep me interested. Some of my houseplants I have owned for years and have become part of my family, and others die within a week of bringing them home! Although it can be frustrating at times, I think it is this element of surprise that keeps me coming back time and time again.

Having never visited RHS Wisley before I was really impressed by the scale of the gardens and the glasshouse especially. I was also not expecting to discover the mother of all gift and plant shops! Let's just say that the shop alone would make a visit over there very worthwhile. Don't expect to leave empty handed! The various cafes and restaurants also made it worthy of a full day out and I would definitely like to return during the warmer months and spend longer exploring the various walks outdoors.

The Giant Houseplant Takeover is on at RHS Wisley until 1st March 2020 and alongside the exhibition they are also running a variety of different talks and workshops which may take your fancy. I really recommend getting yourself over there before the exhibition ends as it's a fantastic day out for all the family and the perfect respite from Winter.

Don't forget to check out my latest houseplant YouTube series 'At Home With...' where I visit fellow houseplant obsessives and have them give me a tour of their home and collections. If you love plants and interiors you will love this series!
