There are a few places within the UK that I often enjoy going back to for mini breaks and Suffolk is really up there at the top of the list. This area ticks so many boxes for me - beautiful beaches and countryside, idyllic villages and it's only a couple of hours from Essex. It's just about far enough away to feel like we're somewhere else, without being an absolute pain to get to.
Last weekend we got to enjoy three relaxing nights away with friends and it was exactly what we needed - time to simply recharge and switch off from everything! We rented our gorgeous Ploughman's Green property through Best of Suffolk and it was everything we had hoped for and more. Having never used this company before (we usually book via Air BnB) I was really impressed with everything. The house was immaculately clean, well presented and there was even a welcome hamper. Between three couples sharing it was also really great value.
The house felt huge and was perfect for the six of us. Andy and I lucked out with the biggest bedroom at the top of the house and it was so cosy and comfortable. I could have easily have stayed there all week! Everything felt really high quality and not like we were staying in someone else's home which is something I can find really off putting about Air BnB.
The house is located just outside of Blyford which is only ten minutes from the ever popular seaside town of Southwold. We always love to visit Southwold if we're in the area as it's an ideal place for a beach walk and exploring on foot. There's lots of little boutique shops and cute places to stop for food and drinks too. The front is lined with an array of colourful beach huts which makes it even more appealing to the eye. I think if anywhere was to sum up the traditional Great British seaside it would be Southwold!
Southwold is also the home to the famous Adnams brewery so there are many inviting local pubs in the area and, for any real alcohol enthusiasts, you can also book a tour of the brewery and distillery or try your hand at making your own gin.
Another favourite spot of mine to visit is Aldeburgh which is only about 25 minutes from where we were staying and well worth the short scenic drive. Aldeburgh is again a beautifully picturesque traditional seaside town well worth exploring if you get the chance. The high street is filled with little shops and cafes and of course you also have the beach. I'd really recommend checking out Delphine's Diner for something to eat - their vegan hot dogs are to die for!
Another place worth visiting if you're near to Aldeburgh is Snape Maltings which is a collection of independent shops, cafes and galleries. If you like handmade crafts and homeware then this is definitely the place for you!
One of my new favourite places to make a point of visiting when in Suffolk is Urban Jungle which is situated just outside of Beccles. If like me you're into your house plants then this place is a must see! Along with the plant shop there is also a cafe where you can sit surrounded by plants and yes it really does feel like you are in a jungle. But this one has tea and cake!
I couldn't leave Suffolk without paying a first time visit to the small village of Orford and their infamous Pump Street Bakery. Having seen this place pop up all over various influencers Instagram pages I of course had to get my own snap in front of their pink wall! Aside from that it's a lovely little spot for a cuppa and a snack.
If you've never been to Suffolk before and you're looking for somewhere to go for a staycation then I really can't recommend this place enough. It's genuinely somewhere that keeps us coming back again and again. I don't think i'll ever get bored of it and I know it will always be somewhere we return to for our much needed getaways.
