Chipotle Mexican Grill | London

This week I was invited along to the opening of a new Chipotle restaurant in London and I couldn't wait to go along as, having never eaten there before, I was really looking forward to trying their food for the first time and exploring their different plant based options. Chipotle now have seven locations in the London area, with the newest opening up just near Monument station in the City.

The evening kicked off with a little look around the new restaurant and some margaritas! If you've never been to Chipotle before then it's worth knowing that the setup inside is similar to other fast food chains in that you queue up to order your food which you can then either take away with you or dine in with. There's a mix of bar seating and smaller tables and it's a pretty casual place to grab something to eat.

As already mentioned, I was particularly interested to check out what plant based and veggie options are available at Chipotle. As soon as we walked in I saw a couple of vegan options being advertised on the main menu boards which was really great to see and immediately made me feel like a welcomed customer.

I have to say that I really enjoyed and appreciated the simplicity of ordering at Chipotle and how straight forward it is. First off you just decide whether you would like a burrito, a bowl or salad. Next up you choose your main fillings which for veggies and vegans is their braised tofu but you could skip this and just go for a beans and the other plant based fillings which include rice, beans and fajita vegetables. Finally you get to top your dish off with a choice of various toppings including fresh tomato salsa, corn salsa and of course guacamole! If you're feeling really hungry you can also go in for a side of their tortilla chips with guac too.

I was feeling pretty hungry this night so I went in for a fulled loaded vegan burrito and a side of chips and dip! From the first bite I knew this was somewhere I'd come back to again. The burrito was absolutely delicious and so hearty and filling. I wasn't sure how keen I would be on the braised tofu but it was amazing and really added some meatiness to the dish which I think I maybe would have missed if I hadn't gone for it. One thing that really struck me was just how fresh and flavoursome all of the fillings tasted.

Chipotle recently launched a new online tool, Eat To Your Own Beat, which has been designed to help customers find the right combination for their personal dietary needs. The tool focuses on eleven diets including gluten free, high protein, vegetarian, vegan, paleo and dairy free. The tool cleverly highlights which ingredient combinations are best and which to avoid.

All in all we had a really great first time experience at Chipotle and I'm still thinking about that burrito days later! I'd definitely recommend checking them out next time you're in London and if you do be sure to let me know what you thought.

Happy munching!
