The Christmas Eve Box

The Christmas Eve box is quite a new tradition in our house but it's one that I have fully embraced. I think I actually get more excited to shop for this than anything else! If you celebrate Christmas and you're not already familiar with the Christmas Eve box concept then this post will hopefully fill you in on everything you need to know and maybe even inspire you to make your own this year.

Christmas Eve has always been my favourite day of the festive period. It's usually less stressful, more relaxed and a time when I just really love to get cosy indoors with my loved ones. Prior to including these boxes in our Christmas traditions we would always usually end up opening one small present on Christmas Eve as a way of getting the festivities started. But now the opening and giving of the Christmas Eve boxes is a main event of the day and one that I personally really look forward to.

So what's it all about?... Well, in my mind the Christmas Eve box is almost like the starter to the main course. It's something to enjoy with those who you spend Christmas Eve with and therefore should include items that can be enjoyed on that day and evening. The more festive the contents the better!

Below I've listed some different categories for what could be included in a Christmas Eve box but at the forefront of your mind when putting one together is that it should include items that can be used and enjoyed on that day and that will make someones Christmas Eve even more special. I also love to make mine as festive as possible so almost everything will be Christmas themed.

Sometimes it's nice to put the same things in everyones boxes so they're things that can be enjoyed altogether as a family. I know Christmas PJ's are a real popular choice for a lot of people as they're something that can be worn on Christmas morning and enjoyed throughout the festive period. Whether you choose to go with completely matching family PJs is a whole other decision to make!

It's really up to you how much you choose to include in your Christmas Eve boxes, there are no rules! But I personally think it's important to not go overboard because it shouldn't take too much away from the gift giving of Christmas Day.

As far as the box itself goes, I always find that Matalan and Homesense usually have the best selection of Christmas gift boxes but this year I have also noticed that shops are starting to cotton on to this new tradition and are selling boxes that actually say 'Christmas Eve Box' on them. Even Wilko's are selling them! You can of course use any box you like and wooden boxes and hamper crates are another popular option as they can be personalised and re-used every year. It's well worth looking online for some inspiration for your own creations. You can even get crafty with your box creations, Hobbycraft have a whole section dedicated to Christmas Eve boxes. Or if you're looking for something a little more luxurious then you should definitely check out the boxes available on Not On The High Street

Will you be doing Christmas Eve boxes this year?
