Paul Mitchell Haircare

I remember when I first decided to go cruelty free and how utterly disappointed I felt with the huge number of well known and high end haircare brands which test on animals. My whole haircare routine which I had been so used to basically went out of the window because I really struggled to find a 'special' high end brand which was cruelty free and vegan friendly.

I've only ever bought pricier high end brands to save for those special ocassions when you know you're going to need a good hair day. Therefore, I tend to have what I like to call my 'every day' shampoos and conditioners and my 'special' high end ones which I might only use once a week.

I experimented with some Lush ones such as 'BIG', which I still go back to from time to time, and I  have also really liked the Phil Smith range from Sainsbury's. But I haven't been able to find anything really special until I recently came across the Paul Mitchell range.

I remember feeling really surprised when I suddenly saw tweets from Paul Mitchell saying that they were cruelty free. 'Finally' I thought to myself, a high end brand which i've seen a number of times advertised within hair salons and online is cruelty free! I was immediately excited to do some more research into the products and other bloggers reviews.

First and foremost, I was really impressed to find that Paul Mitchell have actually done the hard work for us and labelled all of their vegan friendly products. If any of you like me hate researching ingredients you will appreciate how happy this made me! I've also been impressed by the number of vegan products available. Just check out this list which The Vintage Vegan put together, there's so much to choose from!

Out of all the products available the Tea Tree range caught my eye the most and appealed to me due to the natural extracts in the ingredients and the fact that there are hair thickening products within this range. I am constantly battling thin, fine hair and always trying to achieve more body, volume and thickness so this instantly got me interested.

Over the past week I have been using the Tea Tree Lemon Sage Thickening Shampoo, Conditioner & Thickening Spray and i'm so pleased to say that they have worked brilliantly together on my hair.

The shampoo & conditioner both smell gorgeous with a really lovely zesty and uplifting scent. If there was ever a clean smell it would be this! The shampoo lathers up really nicely on my hair and i'm sure I can almost feel those all important thickening agents working away to plump up my hair as soon as I shampoo it.

The conditioner is a nice lightweight formula which i've found to work really well by leaving on my hair for a few minutes after shampooing. I also like to comb conditioners through my hair to ensure that I have an even coverage and I think this has worked especially well with this conditioner as it really has left my hair feeling so soft but also fuller.

After completing my hair wash routine I have then been using the thickening spray before blowdrying. I simply spray this product all over my damp hair, comb through and then blow-dry as normal. At first I was worried that I may be able to feel this product in my hair once it was dry but I was pleasantly surprised to find that this spray results in a no product feeling.

I think this thickening spray is a great accompanying product to the shampoo and conditioner and, by using all three products together, I certainly noticed a difference in both the thickness and healthiness of my hair. These products really left my hair feeling like it does after a visit to the hairdressers which I was most impressed by. I also sense that the more you use these products on your hair, the greater the results.

Finally, the last Paul Mitchell product I tried in-between hair washes was this Dry Wash waterless shampoo. I try not to wash my hair every day and on the days I don't wash my hair I always have to use a dry shampoo product to help keep it feeling fresh and clean. One of my biggest bugbears with other dry shampoos that i've tried has been that they always either leave behind a residue or they discolour my hair with a white powder.

Thankfully this Dry Wash product is completely different! First and foremost it smells amazing which is exactly what you want for unclean hair. Secondly, and most importantly for me, it's pretty much invisible. You can feel it spraying onto your hair but you can't see it. And best of all? After using this product you can't feel it in your hair. There is absolutely no residue with this product which really does make it an amazing find for me! I have never used a dry shampoo like this and I doubt i'll ever bother using a different one ever again.

Overall i've been really impressed with all of the Paul Mitchell products that i've tried and it feels  so great to have finally found a high end brand which doesn't test on animals and which has vegan friendly products available. I would even go as far as to say that this has been my best discovery of 2016 so far!

The products are however quite pricey which I guess is to be expected from any high end brand. I can therefore only see myself using these products occasionally, on special occasions and, as I said before, when I know I need a good hair day!

The entire Paul Mitchell range is so huge that I think no matter what your hair style or needs there is something for everyone.

Some more good news is that since exploring the Paul Mitchell website I have located a number of hair salons in my area which only use PM products. This has been a big relief for me as i've been struggling to find a local hair salon which is in keeping with my personal ethics. I'm now booked in for a hair consultation and a new doo in a couple of weeks which I'm really looking forward to!

Paul Mitchell products can be purchased at hair salons and selected online retailers but the safest place to buy the products is from a salon where you can guarantee the authenticity.

Have you tried any Paul Mitchell products yet? What one's do you love?
